Pemba Sherpa

Pemba Sherpa Assistant Instructor, KCC Basic Group

Pemba Sherpa is a mountain guide from Phortse. He worked for IMG as a climbing and personal Sherpa from 2012 – 2014, but now freelances as a guide. Everest was his first summit of a big mountain peak. In his career, he has summited Everest 2 times, Lobuche 1 time, Ama Dablam 1 time, and has also ascended numerous trekking peaks like Island and Mera. Outside of Nepal, Pemba has climbed in the Italian and Austrian Alps. In 2013 he participated in a body recovery and rescue and in 2014 he survived the infamous avalanche that hit the Khumbu Icefall and took the lives of many of his friends. In 2015 he was featured in a National Geographic article about his decision to avoid the Everest season only a few weeks before the earthquakes hit Nepal. This year he will be guiding clients in the Dolpo in Western Nepal, on Lobuche peak, and to Everest Base Camp. Pemba started off as a KCC student in 2010, has been an instructor since 2015, and his family owns the Namaste Lodge that is used during the annual KCC training season. He loves how KCC fosters the sharing of ideas around climbing and rescues.
