Doug Colwell
Doug Colwell is a husband, father, volunteer, friend to many, owns HD Insurance & a partner at Idaho Mountain Guides. As an insurance & risk management expert, Doug has multiple Industry awards & even hosted The Idaho Connection, a weekly radio talk show., BITD. With business, marketing, and risk management degrees, Doug has used those skills to the benefit of the climbing community. He founded the Boise Bouldering Contest, The Boise Climbers Alliance, served as an official for the American Alpine Club for 18 years. As a recipient of the American Alpine Club The Angelo Heilprin Citation, Access Fund’s Sharp End award and numerous others, Doug has been serving the climbing community for more than 3 decades. His business, service and recreational goals are aligned; To Help Those That Help Others.
Doug started climbing in 1976, has climbed in 13 countries & pioneered at least 500 first ascents. He made an attempt on K2 in 1992, last climbed El Cap in the 1980’s and continues climb while establishing new routes annually. HD Insurance, based in Boise Idaho, is a commercial insurance and risk management brokerage firm that targets Nonprofits, Professionals, Governmental Entities and a variety of general business clients. Married for 33 years to Carol who are parents of adult children, Drew and Claire.
